Driveway

I made it! I made it out to the barn an exact 16 days out of 31 this month. By focusing on the process (just showing up) I achieved more in 16 days than I have all year.

One of those accomplishments is the driveway. Avalon and I have made it all the way to the end of the driveway several times now. She doesn't call for her buddies or try to bolt when scary things happen.

This newest accomplishment bodes well for future trail rides. My newest goal is to take walks through the pasture and along the road until we can walk anywhere by ourselves. Ava is relying on me for comfort and reassurance instead of her buddies. The next step is for her to take responsibility for her own emotions.

We are spending a lot of time in the arena as well. Hopefully pole work and lot of trotting will get Avalon in better shape. She's got a little bit of a tummy at the moment.

I'm so thankful to have a horse to play and learn with and this beautiful facility to explore together!

  1. I’m convinced, with horses, time is the essential component. Without it, even the best trainers would fail. Congratulations on getting out there!

    1. I'm realizing that I could probably do even more if I made time to spend 1-2 hours a day with Avalon. Not necessarily "working" the whole time. Time and consistency changes everything.

    1. Thank you! I'm starting to incorporate process-based goals into other areas of my life. They take so much of the perfectionistic pressure off.
